Recycled Boat Race @ Venice of Ireland Festival 2013

Well what a busy weekend I had, the sun was spitting rocks and the annual Venice of Ireland festival kicked off on Saturday, this was my second year to be involved. First up was the recycled boat race. which was held up on the aqueduct. It gave the kids a chance to build their own boats from all sorts of rubbish and then race them. The local canoe club provided a much needed kick start to the two races as the canal waters would not be known for their speed of movement. One guy in a Kayak went absolutely mental and caused some serious waves. With the race underway a number of the kids decided to jump in and help certain boats progress down the canal. Not that they were cheating, but the prize was eventually given to the best designed boat. A little girl who had made her Viking long ship out of a milk carton. Various other prizes went to other kids based on age. A great start to the weekend. Enjoy the slideshow.

Anything that keeps children exploring their creativity is great! Combining that with the use of recycled items … perfect! Glad you had fun!
