Last weekend I had to stock up the freezer, so with the kids packed into the car, we drove down to Kildare Farm Foods. Its a fantastic place to shop, although a bit out in the backside of nowhere. The shop itself is set on a farm in Rathmuck,Co. Kildare, where they recently opened a stunning Open Farm in addition to the shop. With the boot stocked up with enough food to keep the family going to Christmas, it was time to take the kids for a stroll around the farm, in the hope that they would tire and perhaps take a nap in the afternoon. Surrounded by a Half Kilometer walk, the farm is a great place to stretch the legs and let the kids see all the wonderful animals. You can even feed them, there is a vending machine which dispenses containers of some sort of feed for the animals, the kids thought this was great, although Dylan was not impressed when one of the chickens tried to take a bit more than food from his hand.

There is a fantastic variety of animals to see, each in their own specialized enclosures. From the surprisingΒ Β ‘Fluffy & Duster’ the Ostrich, ‘Rizzo, Sandy & Hector’ the Alpaca, ‘Timmy & Tess’ the Sheep, ‘Bill & Ben’ the Pygmy Goats, and the biggest characters of all the Chickens & Ducks. There are also Deer, Horses and Cattle. The centre piece to this walk is the Magical Fairy Rath which will bring you back to a time gone by with its peaceful atmosphere and old style traditional farm cottage. Ava spent an age here trying to catch a glimpse of the fairies, but eventually gave up saying that ‘they were probably gone out to the shops‘. πŸ™‚

Well my plan worked as soon as we got home the three little monsters dozed of on the sofa watching a movie, giving Daddy a much needed rest. If your looking to do a great shop or just spending a nice time with the family, I highly recommend you pay the farm a visit. You can check out their website HERE.

  1. Awwww, I love this picture!

  2. It is good for children to have experience of where their food comes from – not just from a tin in a grocer’s shop. Really like the duck shot with the wings splayed out – great timing!

Beautiful children…brings back fond memories of my trip to Ireland eight years ago!

  8. The effect of the reflection of the red paintwork in the water with the ducks is a bit alarming! Gives it a rather sinister feel. I love the last one of the deer, and your three beauties of course.

I also lived on a farm with my eldest daughter for a while and enjoyed the life, although it was not a big as yours. I am also a keen photographer and have been for the last 60 years. i am always in trouble with my wife as she says I photography nearly everything I see.I do find that with digital it`s good to take as many shots as possible , because one of them is always very good as it captures the moment. hope to hear more from you in the future. All the best Leo

I used to have a boss who looked like this ostrich, apart from the intelligence and humanity. The ostrich displays much more intelligence and humanity … πŸ™‚
