Re-work Wednesday 4

Lupan

A bit late this week due to an untimely bug that had me KO for the last 24 hours, but we are thankfully on the mend. So this week I wanted to try something a bit different from the norm. Its been a while since I have done anything with animals so this week I decided to re-do an image of Luipan, a gorgeous Siberian Huskey which I shot back in 2011. They say that you should never work with Children or Animals? Well Luipan is the exception to the rule, I fell in love with this little pup after having to travel down to Kilkenny to collect him for a family member. By the time we got back to Kildare, I was seriously considering keeping him for myself.

What really stood out for me were the eyes, Luipan was duel eyed, which I believe is a rare condition in Huskeys, but is simply stunning to see. For this rework I de-saturated the image, then using a layer mask I painted back the color in the eyes. Unfortunately the original image was cropped to tight on the top, so part of the ears are missing. Not being able to do much about that, I decided to do a tight square crop around the head, which I think works quite well.

So thats the Re-work for this week, hope to see you all next Wednesday for another image taken from the archives.

  1. Good rework Ed – thanks for the information on how you approached the image processing. Hope you are on the mend – did it hit the entire family or are you patient zero? I have a staff member who has an French Bulldog with different colored eyes – you are right – it is interestingly unnerving to see in person.

Wow! Beautiful! Apparently, the dual eye thing is quite common in wolves. I watched a program late last night about how animals interpret the world through their senses, and it compared wolves with dogs. What is it about wolves which is so compelling?! Luipan reminds me of a wolf, truly beautiful! Great image…in spite of your self criticism! Love it!

I love this shot. We went dog sledding this month and the lead dog was dual eyed as well. I snapped photos like mad 🙂 I also thought his name interesting…Chaos.

I see what you mean about the eyes, but whenever I see a dog with 2 different shades, they mostly have some husky blood in them.
