White Castle – Monochrome Madness Challenge

1 Black Castle

So two weeks ago I posted an image of Black Castle from Leighlinbridge in County Carlow for the Monochrome Madness Challenge over on Leanne Cole’s Blog. In an attempt to keep the balance this week we travel down to Athy in Co. Kildare to see White Castle, which you can see to the right of Crom Abu Bridge. Both Castles where built to protect important river crossings and make for stunning imagery. I first shot White Castle back in 2012 after a family wedding and always want to stop off when I am passing through. Built in 1417 by the viceroy of Ireland John Talbot to protect a newly built bridge over the river Barrow, it later came into the possession of the powerful Earls of Kildare, the Fitzgerald family.

Unlike Black Castle I was unable to get a nice reflection of the castle due to my shooting position down river on the opposite side of the bridge, but I did manage to get some moody skies which I quite like. So that’s it for yet another weeks contribution, you can as always check out the rest of this weeks MMC images which will go live some time later today over on Leanne Cole’s Blog, depending on your time zone. Every week you will find contributions from from photographers around the globe. So whether you are looking for inspiration or have a bit of a thing for black & white photography lie I do, you know were to find it. 🙂
