Last week we brought the kids up to the Zoo in Dublin, its been quite a while since we were last here, so they were excited to see all the animals. It was the afternoon before we got there and some of the animals had gone indoors for the day. A lot of work had been done since we where there last many of the enclosures have changed. The elephants had been moved from the African plains. The Gorilla’s also had a new home, which did not aid in taking pictures like before. A new play area had also been built for the kids. A visit to the zoo is not a cheap affair, but its worth it just to see some of the magnificent animals that live there. The gorilla’s are my personal favorite, but they are now indoors behind a glass enclosure with bad lighting which made in impossible to get a nice clean shot. Although I love seeing them, its quite sad to see them locked up like this. You can see in the eyes that their spirit is gone, when compared to watching them in the wild. As mentioned not all the animals were out in view but here is a selection of shots from the day. I hope you enjoy them. 🙂

Great pics. Zoo’s are (imho anyway) a necessary evil in todays world with the rapid and continual encroachment into animal habitat the world over, but they have to be run correctly.
I recently went to Beijing Zoo (have a look on my blog), and left disgusted. Clearly Dublin zoo is a lot better managed.

Such a shame, I would have thought that Beijing would have been one of the better ones.

Great looking family. Brings back memories of when mine were younger. They still enjoy going to the zoo, but it’s not quite the same as when they were all under 10.

We sure did, Mom is a bit camera shy, but she does take a good picture 🙂

That snow leopard looks like it’s about to melt. And the look on Dylan’s face when he’s at the wheel of the truck is a photo looking for a caption competition. “Guess what, guys, I managed to release the hand brake. But I can’t reach the pedals.”

Deadly, that’s something he would actually do 🙂 Our Dylan is a bit of a handful at the best of times 🙂

Lovely pics! Do they still have the café there where you can watch the meerkats through a glass window?
