OMG, It was only when I was thinking about this post that I realized there are only several weeks left till the dreaded big C! I cant believe how fast this year has gone by. For this weeks instalment I picked an image from 2012. The Hell Fire club is a a place that I have many fond memories of as a child. I cant remember how many summers we would spend hiking up the Dublin mountains to spend the day exploring this creepy old building. If your interested in finding out more about the history of this old place, then check out the following link, HERE. I’m particulary happy with how this image turned out. You can see from the original image, that the sky was completely blown out. Thankfully I had shot it in RAW at the time, even though I had no idea what to do with a raw file. Thankfully I have learnt a few things since then and after some hard work in ACR, and some heavy burn & dodging in Photoshop, I was able to bring back the detail in the sky. Then I imported the image into Silver Effex to give it a nice B&W conversion, with a good boost to the ‘structure’ to give that effect I like. So thats my shot for this weeks, as always your thoughts, comments and critique are most welcome. With only seven weeks left this year, here is a challenge for YOU. Pick any image from this blog, my website, Facebook page or Flickr Account. Send me the link to the image and lets see what I can do with it. And just to add a little sweetner to the challenge, at the end of the year, anyone who picked an image will be entered into a draw. I will pick out a name from a hat, and that person will recieve their favourite image on a large format print. You can send your ideas to edmooneyphotography@gmail.com and best of luck 🙂

Ed this would look right at home in Andrew Graham Dixon’s series on the Gothic – now on BBC I-player. Great shot.

Good rework – love all the texture you brought out in the image that does work well in B&W. Yes, difficult to believe that we are mid-November already…

This so atmospheric I can almost see a sad and lonely vampire wandering around!

LOL, I would say you would find much worse creatures than a lonely Vampire wandering around here after darkness falls. Some pretty bad stuff happened up here. From the destruction of two ancient burial cairns for which the stone was used to build this lodge to the nasty antics of the Hell Fire Club.

Thank you for recently visiting and liking my blog. I’m glad you did, because I otherwise might have missed out on seeing this great photograph. It’s also nice to see an appreciation for black & white in this day and age where everything seems to be about HD and color… and some people really miss out on just what quality pops from solid black & white photography.

Thank you, it was my pleasure. I could not agree with you more. I only got into black & white about a year ago. I just love it 🙂

Dear Ed I note your reference to werewolves in Ossory. If you send your address to hfryan@eircom.net I will send you a copy of my novel dealing with Alice Kyteler and Bishop Ledrede of Ossory in the 1300s. Mention is made of ‘lycanthropes’ being more numerous in Ossory than anywhere else in Ireland. You might be interested.

Wow, that would be great Hugh, I would love to read that. I wonderr if this has anything to do with the original encounter. I know it caused alot of trouble in the church at the time, email sent 🙂
