I’ve only gone and done it again……..

After the success of my recent article on St. Colmcille’s well, I was approached by the nice folk from Tallaght Community Council earlier this week about doing another article for the “Love Tallaght Outdoors” series which is published weekly in the Tallaght Echo. So I was delighted to get another chance to share some of my explorations. I love blogging as it affords me the opportunity to share some of my passions with others under one banner. But there is nothing quite like seeing your work published in the print media, be it a book, magazine or indeed the local newspaper. A good friend and fellow blogger extraordinaire had recently been encouraging me to try to get my work published in a local paper. And so with two articles already published with little effort, I think it might be time to start approaching some of the local or even maybe national papers about featuring a regular ‘Diary of a Ruinhunter’, feature? So if you are reading this and are an editor or publisher and would like to discuss such a feature, then please get in touch, I would love to hear from you.

Any so moving on to the important bit. The subject of this weeks article, which goes right back to my childhood. Ballymount Castle which has sadly all but vanished, was a fantastic Castle ruin with some amazing historical connections. Thanks to a motorway and tram line running through its path very little remains but the fond memories of many children, whom spent their summers playing amongst its ruins. I last visited Ballymount Castle back in 2012 which is now situated within the grounds of a park beside the aforementioned motorway and tram line. You can read the original piece HERE. This is a prime example of why it is so important to document and try to preserve as much of our remaining heritage as possible. It has been one of the main driving factors behind what I do. I know that this year has not been great but with weather permitting this sunday I have a huge expedition planned for Meath and a list of over 50 ruins to try and fit in, so fingers crossed I will have a lot more really cool and interesting places to share with you over the coming weeks.
