Now I’m Excited

Finalist

I never imagined I would have gotten this far, so you could just imagine my suprise, when I saw the email from the Irish Blog Awards telling me that I had made it as a finalist in the ‘Best PhotographyBlog’. Needless to say I am absolutley BUZZING. Looking back to when I started this little blog, I had no idea what I was doing or where it would lead too. Over time as I kept shooting, learning and sharing, it all fell into place, when someone called me a Ruinhunter!Ok so its not all about ruin hunting, I do like to do other photography related stuff from time to time, but the name has stuck and thats what I enjoy the most.

Over the past four+ years I this little blog has helped me learn so much and I have met some great people along the way. Without their support and advice, I may not have lasted this long. So to everyone whom has supported, liked, followed advised and voted for me. A big thank you to each and every one of you. Win or loose, its the Journey we take not the destination that counts. And I’m just getting started πŸ™‚

If you’ve missed any of these posts, you’re missing quite a bit of Irish culture, history, and humor. This isn’t just a blog, it’s a service.

      • Why would you NOT make it this far? When your fans (myself and others) compliment your work, it is not just the idle praise of a few random Netizens. Your work actually has aesthetic value. It actually ‘accomplishes’ things. With trophies or without, you have succeeded where it truly counts: expanding the lives of your fans through new perspectives and new ideas, showing us things we have never imagined or knew existed. You have won Life… and the rest are glittering reminders that you have won THE trophy of being a creative soul.

This time around I am giving YOU 6stars out of 5! πŸ™‚

        • Always brining a smile to my face with your kind words. Ive been plodding along for a few years all happy and oblivious to what I was really doing. All the support is unbelievable, but im trying to keep humble and not let it go to my head. I would be devistated if I wasnt able to keep it real. Mr Ego has no place here πŸ™‚

          • “Plodding along for years” is how one builds their skills, unconsciously finds their voice, and finds/creates their own niche. All that matters at the core is the hundreds and thousands of hours spent traveling, shooting, assessing, reshooting, coloring, finding, traveling, writing. This “plodding” is what separates artists from posers. Posers wants to be famous or recognized and hate hard work. ARTISTS want to see their vision/passion expanded and thus get about he dirty, sweaty, tiring, expensive, self-doubting business of pursuing that elusive, impossible “perfect” realization of their vision. Then, sometime we look up for a second and find out that while we were sweating away on the tree, others have been enjoying the fruit!!

Van Gogh relentless pursued his vision through poverty, sickness, public disapproval of his art, even unto his death. His legacy has vindicated his EFFORT, not his genius. Think about this, Ed: you have garnered more public and private praise and attention for your work than Van Gogh ever did in his lifetime!! What this does is vindicate yours and Van Gogh’s EFFORT. Peel back any true artist, and there is a whole lotta plodding…

            Plodding = winning. πŸ™‚

            • All makes sense Dan, if Im ever in need of a pick me up, Ill be returning to your comments for motivation.
Lets just hope whilst im Plodding, I dont start drinking Absinthe and chop of my ear…………
I would rather hang on to both of them as long as possable :–)

              Liked by 1 person

              • Ear loss and death via poisonous absinthe is completely avoidable in this day and age thank god, and the stupid notion that self-destruction = true genius/art is gone (I hope).

But the idea that pain/powerful emotion can drive art is one of art’s great redemptions, that art can release the negative, rather than necessitates negativity for aesthetic power. Art can redeem negativity… but negativity is not art, so taking meds and doing yoga will not make one lose their vision/power as an artist.

Your work is situated in the space between light and just when your finger pulls the “trigger” on your camera. That does not require self-destruction. It requires love: you loving the moment and pulling the trigger on the pure immediacy of that moment. So in your case, you are free of the need to be a self-loathing martyr for some kind of Neo-romantic return to the 19th century… when a man was a man, and the sheep were nervous… πŸ˜‰

                • LMAO, I havent heard that man ans sheep phrase in ages, always brings a smile to my face.
Thankfully with a wife, three kids and a mortgage to pay I dont really get the chance for any of that self destruction/loathing.And the only abuse I manage these days is cracking my head of the lintel of an old castle door or getting chased across a field my not so nervous farm animals, lol.
Welcome to the joys of a Ruinhunter πŸ™‚
