Some of you will already know, but this blog ihas been nominated for and made it into the shortlist for not one, but two categories in this years Irish Blog Awards. And I am absolutley over the moon. I had never been one for allocades and awards, and was just happy that someone else enjoyed my mix of images and history.. But I must admit, it feels pretty damn good to recieve such regognition. There have been many great blogs nominated this year, some of which I though where much more deserving than mine, so I am deeply honored to have made it to this stage.
Yesterday voting was opened to the public, these public votes will represent 30% of overall score for this round of judging. Voting is open until the 21st September and the finalists will be announced soon after. So I am currently in two categories this year. Best Arts and Culture Blog & Best Photography Blog. It would really mean alot to me if the Ruinhunter made it into the finals, so you would like to help make this happen, here is what you can do.
By clicking one of the above links you will be able to vote for a number of different blogs on the shortlist for that category. Its as simple as that. I wont start working on my acceptance speech just yet, but I would like to thank each and every one of you whom have supported this blog over the past few years, every like, comment, pm, follow means a lot and has kept me going even through the difficult times 🙂
Good luck, Ed. I’ve voted.

Done, Ed! Good luck. Except maybe more luck to you in Best Photo Blog than in Art & Culture. Because we’re competing with each other in Art & Culture, and it could get ugly. I’m not a pretty crier. 😉

Ed does an amazing job of recording whats left of our our ancient sites for posterity before they crumble into oblivion. His photography is just stunning. Not surprisingly, he has been shortlisted in two categories of the Irish Blog Awards. Please follow the links and vote for him. I cant think of a more deserving winner.

I would love to, but my lens is broken at the moment *sad face* So until then, I can’t take photographs. Hoping to get it fixed in the next few months, though, so I’ll let you know then. 🙂

No worries, I got a similar issue, the shutter mechanism in mine keeps seizing, fingers crossed we are both back in action soon 🙂

Sounds similar to the issue I am having – although the mechanism isn’t working at all on mine, and it needs to be replaced completely. It’s not cheap either *Long sigh* I really miss taking snaps, though, so hopefully I can get it fixed sooner rather than later.

Im reduced to using a little Nikon Point and Shoot just to keep away the withdrawl symptoms 🙂

I only have my iPhone which takes really bad pictures! How do you rate the Nikon point and shoots?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Look, a camera is a camera is a camera, its nothing to do with price or any of that, its how you use it. I have posted images on my blog, taken on a HTC and nobody was any the wiser. Although I hate Iphones, they do have a very good camera. You get used to messing with the settings and editing and you will be flying.
In answer to your question, Yes is like Nikon, but that may be bias. There is little betweeen all the big btrands now, Nikon, Canon, Sony etc. The only difference is the sensor, build quality and F stop capability on the Lense.
A good Point n Shoot would set you back a few hundred euro maybe, but you could get a good entry level DSLR which would be the better option in my opinion.
It all comes down to your own preference and buget at the end of the day 🙂

I think I’ll just hang fire and wait until I get a new lens. The iPhone is terrible but it does the job in far as taking every day photos! Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it. And the best of luck to you.

Done and done. I voted for you in both categories… because you totally deserve the attention and the recognition. You have earned it the right way: through hard work and thought, and not bullsh*t attention seeking, like 98% of Youtube.

Certainly feeling better today. Still a bit ropey if I push it too much but on the whole I am on the mend for sure. Was able to manage a short walk with the dog so was happy with that although the result was a quick step home and back to the smallest room….

Yeah it takes a while to recover, try to keep hydrated as much as possable and get some fibre into you, that should speed things up 🙂

If you get my meaning Ed, the last thing I need is fibre, unless it’s a cork….GULP!!!!

Jaysus I must be a bit thick, but I can’t find a link to vote for you! The links here seem to be down, and the official website makes me want to kick a cat it’s so annoying (and I generally don’t kick cats, just for the record…) Got a URL I could use? Help a brother!

So kind of you my friend, but the ship has set sail. Public voting closed a few days ago and I actually made it to the finals, Whoop, Whoop.
So all you can do now is cross your fingers for me, its in the hands of higher powers now.
Really appreciate the support 🙂
