Please don’t be shocked, this week I had an irresistible urge to do something completely different! And so after 40 weeks of re-works, this is the first full colour image I have done, and probably the first ruin image that was not in Monochrome in over a year. What you are looking at is a shot of the Medieval Abbey at Bective in Co. Meath. It was built for the Cistercian order back in 1147AD and its still in quite good condition. Working from the Raw file I adjusted the structure and added a digital ND filter to bring out the detail in the sky.
Dont fear I have no intention of going back to shooting these the many ruins I visit each year in colour, but I think that its important to play around with something different every once in a while. If anyone has a favourite image which they would like to see featured in the future then get in touch or drop me a line, I would love to hear from you,
For these and more of my images, why not visit my Website or join me on Facebook or Twitter.
I have to admit to loving color.. so to me this is gorgeous.. blue skies, green grass and the old ruins.. beautiful.. 🙂

This is probably the prettiest shot you have taken; very nice. I personally refer your monochrome works… but it is still a nice shot. 🙂

Even though its in colour it still has a surreal, magical quality about it. The backdrop of sky just looks amazing!
Btw… on a different note, did you get a shot of the moon last night? Apparantly tonight will be a blood moon… Ive never seen one, and judging by the weather report, its not looking like Ill see this one either!

Really? It was gorgeous here! But missed my shot as I was too busy ferrying kids between sports training. By time I got home it was dark and the moon had risen quite high and wouldnt have looked so spectacular… my only camera is on my phone lol!

After looking at many of your monochromes, I realize that the difference in feeling that I get from the color pics of almost complete structures, is that I could almost imagine what the ruin was like when it was whole and in use, with people in the picture. A subtle difference between mono being ‘this is past tense’ and color being ‘this was once present tense’.

i love the color, and the 3-D effect of the castle on the image. Kind of reminds me of the images I saw in the GAF ViewMaster from my childhood. (a GAF what?)

LOL, Thanks Cheryl, Gaf was a slang word we used as kids for our homes, not sure about a ViewMaster though 🙂

I say do a colour shot once a month, even once a quarter. I enjoy seeing the different shades of stone here. Lovely.

I was considering the idea Elen, a little color once in a while is good for the soul I think 🙂
