It has been a strange couple of weeks for me lately, the ruinhunter has taken up Kettlebell training and started a new diet regime which I have to admit is taking more time than expected to get used to. As a result, I haven’t been getting out exploring for a while. But fingers crossed, things seem to be getting better and I hope to be back to normal this week. So continuing on from last weeks Countess Dracula which I wrote last year whilst exploring the Bram Stoker Festival in Dublin for the thefairytaletraveler.com.
After the trauma of the Vampire hunt it was in Barnardo square that I found peace in the form of the wandering minstrel like Larry Beau and his able sidekicks. I first saw them preform in the lashing rain as they belted out a medley of infectious original songs. There was a strong sense of Gothic or rather dark romanticism influence to this performance, but not in the modern sense. Larry Beau or Declan Burke as he is known to some appears like a stray from Victorian times. His music is melodic catchy and once the heavy rain broke and the crowds re-appeared, the influence of his music shown through. A true Irish entertainer with a voice that required no microphone or amplifier throughout his show, just an acoustic guitar and his trusty sidekicks. Interacting with a captivated audience, Larry kept the spectators in his grasp from start to finish.
Think of it as training for your ruin hunting – then it may not seem so taxing 🙂
