Well the christmas season has well and truely kicked in, which is probably why I have’nt been out exploring as much as I would normaly. Last year the Mooney house recieved a special visitor for December in the form of Rex the Elf. Rex is one of Santa’s special little Elves, whose sole job is to visit the homes of children and observe their behaviour in the lead up to the big day. Each day the elf makes a report for Santa which is then used to compile the ‘Naughty or Nice’ list. When Santa arrives on Christmas Eve, he collects your elf and brings him back to the North Pole. Last year Ryan, Ava and Dylan where on there best behaviour. It is said that if the children have been really good and made their Elf feel at home during his stay they might be lucky enough to have him return next year.
Well this year it seems that Rex was on a special mission for Santa, but he sent one of his friends to keep a close watch over Ryan, Ava and especially Dylan. So our special quest for this year is called Lloyd. Despite his uncanny resemblance to Rex, Lloyd also shares his nature and keeps on moving around the house on a daily basis, much to the amusement of the kids, who have to find out where he has moved too each morning before school. For a little guy, he sure gets around, to date he has gone from the Kitchen counter to the top of the christmas tree. Then today when I got home from work the kids were delighted to show me where Lloyd had gotten to next. And what a suprise it was. He somehow had manadges to attach himself to one of the kitchen light fittings along with a bauble from the christmas tree. So far, Lloyd has not caused to much trouble whilst he has been staying with us and he sure seems to be keeping the kids on their best behaviour. Stay tuned for more adventures from Lloyd the Elf.

Looks as if you are heading for a great Christmas.
Best wishes, Pete.

I’d never heard of the elf on the shelf until recently. Is it a US thing? Kids have so much fun dont they? Its getting harder and harder for us parents to maintain all the deceptions lol!

Me too, last year was the first for me, I think its a US thing, there was even an animated movie for them.
You are right, it does get harder, which means the addition of some new stories to keep things going.
I tend not to think of it as a deception, its more like encouraging their imagination which is where the true festive spirit rests.
Its only a shame that adults cant hold on to that as we get older? With one or two exceptions of course 🙂

Too true! But I think some of us do… some of us never let it go and prefer to live in that world as and when they can lol!
As far as deception goes, its a lovely deception that enriches childrens lives, and is enjoyed as much by their adults as the children themselves. Imagine if you never had the magic of Santa in your life as a child!

LOL, I still do. Life would be very dull without imagination which is were all magic comes from 🙂
As far as I am concerned the only deception is the mundane life that grips a hold of most people 🙂

You are creating lovely tradition for your family. Your kids will remember it when they are adults and they will cherish these memories!

Ah Thank you, I was just talking with one of my work colleagues, he was telling me that Dec 24th is actually a big day in Poland?
The difference in traditions across Europe is rather interesting 🙂

Thanks Cheryl, I think they are called ‘Elf on the Self’? And there is even an animated movie 🙂
Surprisingly no, Lloyd was hanging from a light fitting in the kitchen, so the background would have been the ceiling and wall. I turned off all the lights and used a little fill flash. With no macro lense I had to get right up close.
A little levels adjustment finished it off nicely:-)

Anticipation makes all things better! You’ll have to try to capture the joy on your children’s faces when they find Lloyd each day 🙂

Perhaps at the weekend, I do have three hours done in work by the time the little ones are up 🙂

Maybe behavior can be controlled by an elf arriving waaay earlier next year, or maybe Santa will leave the elf to keep tabs on the children throughout the year, because they’re really borderline naughty/nice…..

LOL, If only, I don’t think that the magic would last all year in our house 🙂

Thanks for liking my blog about Oaxaca. If you love ruins, you should visit this part of Mexico – there are over 1000 archaeological sites in the state of Oaxaca, many of them unexcavated and probably always will be. I can see some from the rooftop of where I live.
