Yes its that time of the Year, and the Nominations for this years Blog Awards Ireland have been open since last week. This is the Seventh year running and there should be a great buzz leading up to the finals. This will be my third year to be involved after having made it to the long list back in 2013 even though I was not even aware of it until it was all over. Then last year I was fortunate enough to have made it onto the shortlist. What I Most like about the awards is not the competition, but meeting new bloggers from around the country and from different platforms that I might not have been exposed to before.
This year has also seen some changes with two awards in each category covering the individual and Corporate Blogger accross 19 categories. Also for the first time there will be a public vote, where you the public get to vote for your favourite blog from the finalist list. You can also apply to be a Judge if the fancy takes you. So why not head on over to the Awards Blog Ireland 2015 and have a look around, You can nominate your own blog or some blogs that you really like. Maybe I might see you there at the awards bash in October?
Well Ed, I have nominated you, for your excellent historical articles, and accompanying photos. I have also nominated Niall, who is Irish, but lives in Canada. It’s still a very Irish blog though! https://ragingfluff.wordpress.com/
Good luck, and I hope that you both win in some category or other.
Best wishes, Pete.

My pleasure Ed. Niall writes about The Diaspora, Films, TV shows, and Literature. All with a very Irish point of view. I hope that you find something to enjoy there.
Best wishes, Pete.

Well you won’t see me at the awards in October because it seems like the tickets don’t include round trip air fare from LA, but maybe my vote will help you get there!

Ed, unless it’s changed in the last couple of years the judging criteria (I was involved) mean that these awards are not much more than a lottery. The public vote is, at least, an improvement. Nonetheless I’ll be rooting for you and my other Irish faves.

A thanks Roy, appreciate the vote of confidence. How did you find the judging. I was thinking of giving it a go this year?

In brief, the many criteria of a blog are awarded marks 1-10. However those criteria are often not applicable to an individual blog. So it’s in the judge’s gift to award whatever they wish. There is no guidance offered on this and it must vary from judge to judge, skewing the whole thing. (Things may have changed).

So that explains how I never won, lol 🙂 Thanks for the insight Roy, I might just give it a go for the experience, who knows, I might learn a thing or two 🙂

I would be delighted to nominate your blog, but being new to this, do I have to wait until I have all five nominations in place or can I just do one at a time?

Hi Donna, I dont think so, I have nominated about 13 blogs that I really like so far, there does not seem to be any limit or restrictions. And thank you 🙂
