Paddy’s Day Parade 2014

DSC_3436

Sadly this year the annual parade and festivities in Monasterevin could not go ahead, hopefully next year the parade will return in full swing. But after the fantastic Irish win in the Six Nations against France, the lack of a parade could not dampen spirits, and fortunately we decided to head up to the nearby town of Portarlington as they had a parade. So we headed up early with some time to kill before the event and the kids got some play time in the local playground. By the time the parade was over they were well and truly worn out. The weather held out for us this year and it was a great day. I still missed the buzz of the event in Monasterevin, but the organizers in Portarlington put on a good show. With the kids being so tired we skipped the annual tradition of drowning the shamrock in the local pub afterwards, but I might get one or two in after this. So fingers crossed for next year.

Nice one. We used to go for the Parade when I was living in Shanghai. I guess there aren’t too many who celebrate this in India

  10. St. Patricks Day in Ireland looked wonderful! Did everyone have a good time this year?

The St. Patricks Day in LA was overshadowed by the minor earthquake. Which I believe was called the “leprechaun shake”!

    • LOL, Sure what else could they call it, 🙂
Yes this year went quite well, with the main event up in Dublin. It was just a shame that the local town parade could not go ahead due to lack of organisers, 🙂 Hopefully next year it will be back.
I hope the leprechaun shake did not stop you from ‘drowning the shamrock’?

      • I love this, Ed! “drowning the shamrock”!! Though I’m quite the tea-totaler. No “devil’s drink or drugs! 😉 I take it if I ever visit Ireland I won’t be making many friends there as I hear pubbing about is essential in making friends there!

Hopefully, organizers will pull together to make your local St.Patricks Day parade reality in 2015.

Yes, leave it to the media to be clever enough to name it the “leprechaun shake”!
