Re-work Wednesday 43

Last week I missed posting a re-work image so to make up for it, i am posting two images this week. Both are portraits of my two youngest kids. Ava pictured with the elephant at a recent BBQ is 5 and Dylan 3 was a shot taken at his big brothers Communion. Regular readers will have seen them appear in various posts as my assistant Ruin Hunters. Some say that in photography, ‘You should never work with children or animals’, well aside from my obvious passion for ancient ruins,  I actually enjoy shooting with kids. Yes it can be a hell of alot more difficult to achieve what you are looking for. Then you have to deal with the fact that kids have a very short attention span, and so they loose interest easily. Thankfully over the years I have learned a valuable lesson. ‘MAKE IT FUN’. Be it wearing a silly hat to keep their attention, make them laugh, get them to dress up or incorporate their favorite toys into the shoot. these are all effective ways of engaging little ones to achieve a result. On the other hand, if you feel the need to resort to bribery and sweets, you have already lost.

Both images were originaly shot in colour and converted to Mono using the old reliable Silver Effex Pro, I just love the structure feature which allows you to give an image some real punch as opposed to conversions in CS which generally tend to be quite flat. As always your comments, observations and critique are always welcomed. 🙂
