A Panoramic View

Killiney Beach (1)

Panorama’s are something that I haven’t tried in quite a while to a recent unplanned trip to the beach gave me the opportunity to have a go. We had planned on heading out to Bray for the Air-show, but by the time we got on the road it was getting late and anyone who knows Bray will tell you getting in and out during traffic is a nightmare so with the kids and cousins we stopped of for a while at Killiney and headed down to the beach front. The kids had a blast searching for unusual stones and I got to try out a sequence of shots to build my scene. Killiney is a gorgeous place with some interesting structures which I shall explore another time. What really got me was the details in the clouds. Getting the right shots was more difficult, with so many people on the beach, moving around, its quite hard to successfully stitch a group of shots together. I took three groups of images, with four shots in each. The image above was the best, and was actually my first attempt. I even managed to capture three aircraft from the air-show as they flew overhead. Anyhow, its back to work for me in the morning after a nice week off. Got plenty of new ruins to show you, so watch out for them 🙂

Your photo only made me to think ”I want to go there!”. Looks really nice and it seems a real good quality, as your work I’ve seen so far. I have a lil’ curiosity: is there anything edited, for the clouds, mostly? I cannot tell that, but it somehow look like – if not, this is great, looks fantastic anyway (Y) !

  2. What an awesome shot! It appears one could toss a ball in the air an touch those clouds, they appear so low to the sea level.

  4. Beautiful, as all your pixs are! Of course, I can’t even hold the camera still enough to keep the pixs from being blurry…lol…

Great shot. I may be mistaken, but I think I stayed at an old hotel/resort on Killiney bay back about 15 years ago. I haven’t had a chance to get back to Ireland since then, but I was saddened to hear that the hotel was gone. Apparently it was torn down to make way for some new condos or something. Does anyone recall this? Sorry to hijack the post a bit, but it was a great memory of mine and I’d like to keep it straight. 🙂

  7. Great Clouds. You handled the artifacts created by the polarizing lens very nicely. I’ve given up using them when I do pano shots.

That has all the glories of Cinemascope!
Fortunately, without a cast of thousands.

Lovely! I didn’t make it this far north when I visited. Made it to Bray once, spent more time at Greystones. Loved the beaches w/ the wonderful beach stones!!

  14. …I often click ’like’ on your posts, Ed, but seldom leave a comment… just wanna let you know I’m always in awe of talents such as yours … the ability to capture on camera what your eye sees, more often as not, images in your mind that the rest of us would never contemplate..good job, that man 🙂
