Dunfierth Shrine 2 – Monochrome Madness Challenge

It has been 15 weeks since I first begun contributing to the  ‘Monochrome Madness Challenge’,  over on Leanne Cole‘s blog. It has been a blast so far, and I love waiting to see what everyone else comes up with week by week. One of the benefits I have noticed from participating is that whilst I still shoot in colour, I look at each image I am about to take and picture it in Black & White. I feel that this has helped me progress towards capturing better images. Each week a fine selection of images are submitted which I feel encourages and inspires us to be more creative and try different things, be that shooting from a different perspective or learning/trying out new editing techniques. I’m really grateful to Leanne for the opportunity to participate and for the inspiration I have gotten from the other contributors.

My shot this week, like the image I used 15 weeks ago was taken at a shrine near the medieval church in Dunfierth, Co. Kildare. Since crossing over to the dark side and signing up to Adobe’s Creative Cloud, I have found myself exploring the many features on offer to see if it is any better than my old version. Well the jury is still out on that one, but I have found myself exploring the use of layers more and how when combined they affect the overall image. Well for this shot I used a combination of layers to create an effect that I quite like and combined them with a shot of the statue taken from a different perspective.
