Old Kilcullen…. Monochrome Madness Challenge.

Old Kilcullen Round Tower & High Cross

This weeks image for the Monochrome Madness Challenge was taken on a recent trip with my eldest son Ryan, were we visited some ruins which I had shot a number of years ago. My very first trip here was back in 2012 and you can read more about the site HERE. Some of you may well remember a recent Re-work Wednesday were I did an edit of one of the shots from 2012. It a fantastic site with the remains of a Round Tower, a number of High Crosses and the foundations of an early Christian Church, all contained within a walled graveyard. Ryan is actually getting into photography and took a number of great shots on the day. Who knows perhaps he may feature as a guest blogger over the next few weeks.

This shot was taken in colour on my trusty Nikon D40 and converted to B/W after a slight levels adjustment. As always the full set of images for this weeks Challenge will be posted some time later today. So head over to Leanne Cole’s Blog later on today and checkout the rest of this weeks images. I know I cant wait to see whats in store.

  2. The backlighting gives this image a very powerful feel – good one for the MMC Ed.

This is a striking composition and treatment. Amazing how effective the darker sky upper left makes it.

A striking and well-composed image. The contrast provided by dark sky top left is particularly effective.

Another person who commented on this photo said it much better than me; however, I’ll add my little bit! *LOL* The light sky in the background lends itself perfectly to the effect of the foreground, Ed. I absolutely love the effect! Cher xo
