Well after a week of R&R,and the batteries almost recharged, its almost time to get back to reality. I spent a few days down in Youghal, East Cork with the family. Whilst the weather was not exactly summer holiday material, we did manage to get a few hours sunshine in between the clouds and rain. Our hotel was right on the beach, so an after dinner stroll along the beach with the kids became a bit of a ritual. This particular night, there was some gorgeous colour with the sun set, and these wodden groynes realy caught my eye. I did do a mono version, but for once much perfered the original colour. Now I didnt get to visit as many places as I had planned due to the weather, but I did manage to explore some really cool places which I will be sharing in due course. Its been a long while since I have done anything in colour, so I would love to hear your thoughts 🙂

Nah I missed it, and about half the sites in the town😠 But the good news is, the family enjoyed it so much we will definatley be going back😃

Oh it sure is, you want to see the list I had going down, the west coast for me is like a child in a sweet shop. 🙂
I did get a few snaps, and managed a full hour in Ardmore in the rain 🙂

I can more than imagine the list. I have one of about 100 things and that’s just a radius of about 2 miles around Tramore!

This is just beautiful! And I thought the same thing- the colors here really sing although I’m sure the mono version would be stunning as well.

On this occasion, I am pleased to see it in colour.I doubt the effect of the different blues would have had the same impact, in B+W.

Thanks Pete, out of habit I went straight for the mono conversion, but quickly changed my mind. just added a little touch of saturation and structure to bring out the finer details 🙂

Black and white pics are moody and full of feeling and your colour ones just pick out the most amazing colours highlighting the ones I would least expect to see.

Great shot of an Irish sunset. You mention sunshine between clouds and rain – just as I remember Ireland in summer! But then you really appreciate the sun when it appears. Here we complain when it goes away – subtle difference in approach. But Ireland has something NZ hasn’t got – history and a wholly unique atmosphere.

I love this! Sometimes it’s so hard to capture the true appearance of a sunset in a photo but I feel like you got the exposure right here and captured the moment. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

I live in Youghal, Ed. Where you there for the Queen of the Sea festival? The weather was shocking. I get some lovely photos while walking along the strand, all times of year. Love your photo, the sky is amazing.

Wow, no I was just down in the Quality for 3 nights last week. Weather was not great but I got a few shots on Wednesday in the town. Also got the Clocktower and Conans Well I was so annoted as I had a long list of stuff I wanted to see. So driving home on Friday morning I stopped off in Ardmore in the lashing rain and got soaked, but I got some nice shots 🙂
It was my first time to Cork and the family loved it, so we will be coming back 🙂
That little bakery on the main street does amazing bakewells 🙂

Such a pity about the weather, but at least your children got to spend some time on the beach. The old town walls and Mary’s Collegiate church and graveyard are great places to photograph.

Does anyone live in Tynte’s Castle, I was just walking up to it and it lashed, Does it ever get opened to the public, or for a visiting Ruinhunter 🙂

I think you can have a look inside. They once had a boat building session on there and it was open to the public. I did a post on the castle for Thursday doors and got my info from this site http://www.tyntescastle.com/index.html I think there’s a contact number on it.

Thanks Ali, despite the weather’s best attempts to spoil it we had a great time. Got a few hours of Sun on Wednesday and Thursday evening was nice.

Hello Ed,
I’ve been out of the loop with my posts on WordPress for the last few months.
I added a post this week to explain my change in content with my blog.
Don’t know if this will be of interest to anyone who comes across my blog, but I don’t want to close the delete it at this point.
